Naira rain on Bayelsa Queens ahead of WAFU-B tournament

The Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, alongside Premium Trust Bank, on Wednesday rewarded Bayelsa Queens Football Club, winners of the 2024/2025 Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL), with substantial cash gifts in recognition of their unbeaten championship campaign.

The announcements were made during the 167th State Executive Council Meeting held at the Government House in Yenagoa, where the victorious team presented the NWFL Premiership trophy to the governor.

Governor Diri, visibly delighted by the team’s achievement, praised the Bayelsa Queens for going undefeated throughout the season and clinching their second league title in three years and sixth overall.

Cash Rewards include: each of the 26 players and Head Coach Ogbonda Whyte were awarded ₦4 million, and eight assistant coaches received ₦2 million each.

The club chairman was gifted ₦3 million, while six board members got ₦1 million each, backroom staff received ₦1.5 million each, and the supporters’ club was given ₦3 million.

Governor Diri urged the team to maintain their momentum as they prepare to represent Nigeria in the WAFU B regional qualifiers in Côte d’Ivoire, aiming for a spot at the CAF Women’s Champions League.
