Victor Osimhen has etched his name in the annals of SSC Napoli history, becoming the latest centurion to reach 100 Serie A appearances for the reigning champions.
The Nigerian striker, instrumental in Napoli’s first Serie A title triumph in 33 years last season, reached this milestone in a 1-1 draw against Torino at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium.
Despite the stalemate, Osimhen’s journey to 100 league games has been nothing short of remarkable since his club-record €75 million transfer from Lille in 2020.
With an impressive tally of 61 goals from 100 league appearances out of a possible 142, Osimhen now joins a prestigious list of Napoli centurions, rubbing shoulders with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Gonzalo Higuain, Andriy Shevchenko, Vincenzo Montella, and David Trezeguet.
During the previous season, Osimhen’s stellar performance saw him surpass the goal-scoring feats of legends like Diego Maradona, Edinson Cavani, and Gonzalo Higuain, netting an impressive 26 goals from just 30 starts and solidifying his status among Napoli’s all-time greats.
Beyond domestic success, Osimhen has also set records as the highest-scoring African footballer in Serie A history and holds the record for most goals scored in a single season.
Returning from the Africa Cup of Nations, Osimhen has continued to showcase his prowess, notching five goals in four games for Napoli. As he prepares to bid farewell to the club and face La Liga champions Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League, Osimhen’s legacy as a Napoli centurion is already secured in the hearts of fans worldwide.
