Nasarawa United sack Kabir Dogo, name Salisu Yusuf as replacement

By Dayo Awoniyi

Nasarawa United have parted ways with coach Kabir Dogo and appointed Salisu Yusuf as his replacement in a bid to salvage their struggling season.

Dogo, who was on his second stint with the club, was dismissed on Sunday after a series of poor results left the team in 18th place with 26 points from 24 matches in the 2024/25 Nigeria Premier Football League.

The club announced an official statement, revealing that the decision to part ways with Dogo was the result of a “thorough review” of the team’s performance this season. Despite his best efforts, the management noted, results had not improved to the desired level.

“We wish to announce that we have mutually agreed to part ways with Technical Director Kabir Dogo, effective immediately,” the statement read. “This decision follows a review of the Club’s performance, as we have fallen short of our expectations.”

While expressing gratitude for Dogo’s commitment, the club emphasized that the decision was necessary to improve the team’s fortunes.

“Despite the efforts of the Coaching Staff and players, results have not improved to the level required, and we have taken the difficult decision to make a change,” the club stated.

“We want to specially thank Coach Kabir Dogo for his dedication and hard work, and for treating the Club and its members like family during his time with us.”

In a statement, Dogo expressed his gratitude to the club, players, and supporters, offering his best wishes for the team’s future endeavors.

“I extend my heartfelt thanks to the Management and Staff for the opportunity to manage Nasarawa United,” Dogo said.

“I also appreciate the players, supporters, and fans, and I wish the team success in the challenges ahead.”

Turning to Yusuf, the club is hopeful that the experienced coach can reverse their fortunes in the league. Yusuf, a former coach of the Super Eagles, takes over with immediate effect.

“Due to the current challenges facing the Club, we have decided to appoint Salisu Yusuf, former Chief Coach of the Super Eagles, as the new head coach,” the club announced.

“We believe his experience at both the club and national team levels will help turn the team’s fortunes around.”

Yusuf, who is a CAF ‘A’ licensed coach, brings a wealth of experience from his previous coaching roles at both club and national levels.

“We are confident that Coach Salisu Yusuf’s vast experience will help us improve our performance and push for better results in the remainder of the league season,” the club added.

Nasarawa United reassured their supporters that they remain committed to competing at the highest level of Nigerian football, and are dedicated to improving their performance in the coming matches.

“We want to assure our loyal supporters and fans that we are fully committed to improving our performance and competing at the highest level,” the club concluded.
