Newcastle United Part Ways with Sammy Ameobi and Trio as EPL Return Looms

Newly promoted Premier League outfit, Newcastle United, has taken decisive steps to revamp their squad ahead of their eagerly anticipated return to the English top flight, and Nigerian-born forward Sammy Ameobi is among the players released from the club.

Ameobi, 25, who made his breakthrough into Newcastle’s first team in 2010, has been a prominent figure in the club’s history. The club formally confirmed his departure, along with the release of three other players – Vurnon Anita, Kubo Satka, and Haris Vuckic. Their names were announced through an official statement on the club’s website, marking the end of their respective tenures with the Magpies.

The decision to part ways with Ameobi comes after a season where he made just four appearances under manager Rafa Benitez. During the first half of the campaign, he was on loan at League One club Bolton Wanderers, before returning to Newcastle in January.

Manager Rafa Benitez expressed his appreciation for the departing players, saying, “I wish to give sincere thanks to all those players who we have made the difficult decision to release this summer. In particular to Vurnon Anita, who has served Newcastle United magnificently over the last five years. Vurnon is an outstanding team player, always working for the team and willing to step into whatever position he was needed to fill. He is an excellent professional, and I thank him for every contribution he has made over the years, particularly in my time as manager. Thanks also to Sammy Ameobi, who came back in January and made a contribution to the second half of the season. He was always so positive and did everything he could to help the team achieve success.”

As Newcastle prepares for its Premier League comeback, these changes signal a fresh start and a renewed sense of determination in their quest for success in the top division.
