NFF expresses sadness over disastrous earthquake, confirms Nigerians safety in Turkey

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have expressed its sadness over a strong earthquake that rocked south-eastern Turkey.
Turkey suffered it’s worst disaster in decades according following a strong earthquake in south-eastern Turkey, near the Syrian border, has exceeded 2,300 people across both countries with increasing death toll hitting almost 2000.
Turkey’s disaster agency said more than 1,500 people died, while 800 were estimated dead in Syria as those numbers of death toll are still expected to rise as rescuers comb through mountains of rubble in freezing, snowy weather.
In a statement, the NFF president joined the rest of the world football in commiseration with the Football Federation of Turkey while also confirming the safety of Nigerian players based in Turkey on Monday afternoon.
“The Nigeria Football Federation is sad about the unfortunate earthquake in Kahramanmaras city of Turkey,” NFF tweeted.
“NFF President, Alh. Ibrahim Gusau has reached out to Nigerian players based in Turkey and they have all confirmed that they are fine. We pray the souls of the departed rest in peace even as we commiserate with the people of Turkey at this time.”
Nigerian players based in Turkey include Henry Onyekuru (Adana Demirspor), Babajide David Akintola (Adana Demirspor), James Adeniyi Segun (Tuzlaspor), Emeka Eze (Istabulspor AS), Ibrahim Olawoyin (Rizespor), and Aaron Samuel (Erzurumspor).
Others include Cynthia Aku (Atasehir), Ugochi Emenayo (Konak), Aminat Yakubu (Atasehir), Glory Ogbonna (Besiktas), Ijeoma Daniels (Trabzonspor) amongst others.
