‘NFF President Ibrahim Gusau is afraid of sacking Jose Peseiro’ – Ifeanyi Udeze

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Former Nigeria defender, Ifeanyi Udeze believes the President of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Ibrahim Gusau is afraid to take major decisions on the future of Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro.

Peseiro who had coached FC Porto and Sporting in Portugal, took over Nigeria Super Eagles job May last year and has led the team to qualify for the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast but his contract ends on June 30.

However, the future of the Portuguese lies in the balance after Gusau confirmed that the fate on Peseiro would be put to polls by Nigeria football fans during his interview with Gbam! Loving Football, an online radio last week.

“It’s not suppose to be like that for the NFF president to say fans should decide whether Jose Peseiro should stay or go because his contract will expire June 30,” Udeze said on Brila FM.

“For me the NFF president is afraid to take that decision, he’s afraid to take the decision whether the coach should stay or go, he should take a decision.“

On whether Peseiro should remain as Super Eagles coach, Udeze backed the Portuguese to remain.

He added: “I think for me since he has qualified the Super Eagles for next year’s AFCON he should be retained.”

A decision on Peseiro’s stay as Nigeria coach is expected to be taken by NFF at the end of his contract this month.
