NFF technical boss Augustine Eguavoen expects competitively ‘tough’ NPFL season

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde
Ahead of the opening game of the 2022/2023 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), the Technical Director of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Austin Eguavoen believe the new season will be a competitive campaign.
Last week, the Interim Management Committee (IMC) of the NPFL conducted the draw for the abridged league in Abuja on December 28.
At the draw ceremony, 20 teams splitted into two pools of A and B, with Matchday 1 set for 8th January 2023 following an approval from the Nigeria Football Federation for an abridged League season and the former Super Eagles coach shares his expections.
“It’s going be an abridged league. We all know that but it will be a tough league. If you don’t start well it becomes a problem. I think it’s a fair one,” Eguavoen told Brila FM.
“What the league is doing now some people are not proud of it which is totally wrong because everybody wants things to go smoothly. It’s going to be rough at the beginning but there is going to be a light at the end of the tunnel.”
Top-flight leave football will return next Sunday after five months of inactivity since the end of the 2021/2022 league season. In Group A, Nasarawa United welcomes two-time African Champions, Enyimba while Bendel Insurance visits Uyo to trade tackles with Akwa United.
