NFF, Technical Committee to Hold Crucial Meeting With Super Eagles Coach Eric Chelle on December 1

The Executive Board Members of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the Federation’s Technical Committee will hold a crucial face-to-face meeting with Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle on Monday, December 1 in Abuja.
A senior NFF official who confirmed the development to Extrasportnigeria.com said the high-level meeting has become necessary following Nigeria’s failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, coupled with the fast-approaching 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
According to him, a virtual meeting would not be suitable for the depth of conversation required at this stage.
“Phone call or Zoom conference won’t be the best platform for this kind of meeting; we need to meet physically with no distractions. We must move away from where we currently are. AFCON is close, but what is even more important are the years ahead,” he stated.
The primary agenda of the meeting will center on rebuilding the Super Eagles for the immediate and long-term future. Insiders say the Federation is concerned about the lack of competition for positions within the squad and the complacency exhibited by some long-standing members of the team.
The NFF is expected to push for “younger and hungrier players” capable of challenging the established stars and raising performance levels.
“There is hardly any real competition in certain positions. Some players come to camp with a lackadaisical attitude because they feel their places are guaranteed,” the source added.
Another key point of discussion will be player discipline in camp. Federation members are reportedly worried about how players use social media while on international duty, with concerns that Instagram and X (Twitter) are becoming distractions.
“We have to tell ourselves the plain truth. Our players cannot be doing things they know they can’t try with their clubs. The same discipline must apply here,” the top official stressed.
He noted that players often travel with influencers or dedicate excessive time to content creation—even during national team engagements.
“When they are on vacation, fine. But not when they are in Uyo preparing for national duty,” he said.
The outcome of Monday’s meeting is expected to shape the direction of the Super Eagles heading into AFCON and beyond. With public confidence shaken after recent failures, NFF leadership is under pressure to ensure the national team returns to the standards expected of a football powerhouse.
