NFF welcomes NWFL Chairperson Obi and others as executive board members

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has welcomed new members to the board after their latest Executive meeting on Sunday, September 10, 2023, in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital.
The Chairperson of the Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) Nkechi Obi and the newly appointed Chairmen of various leagues in the country were welcomed to the Executive meeting as new board members.
“The Board (NFF) formally welcomed to its fold the Chairmen of the Boards of the Leagues, viz Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), the Nigeria National League (NNL), the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) and the Nigeria Nationwide League One (NLO) who were attending their first meeting,” Communique read.
“While expressing confidence that Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye (NPFL, and automatically the 2nd Vice President); Ms Nkechi Nneka Obi (NWFL, Member); His Excellency Ali Silas Agara (NLO, Member) and Mr. George Aluo (NNL, Member) will work assiduously with their members to take the Leagues to new heights.”
Obi recently unveiled strategic plans to drive the women’s league after assuming the leadership of the NWFL in July, held her first media briefing with journalists in Abuja, tagged, ‘Women’s Football Rising’.
This is to tackle the developmental challenges facing the women’s league, which is scheduled to start in November.
Ms Obi said the platform was first presented by her team at the 2023 Women’s World Cup watch party on 20 August. The aim is to track growth, enhance business and commercial value, and create sustainable grassroots development for players through the over 150 clubs in the country.
Reviewing the just concluded FIFA Women’s World Cup, where Nigeria, Morocco, and South Africa progressed to the knockout stage, Obi gave her insight into how women’s football is becoming a most sought-after commodity.
