Nigeria’s senior men’s national team made a positive outing in their preparation for the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers next month with a 3-2 friendly win over Mozambique in Portugal on Monday.
The West Africans team had played out a 2-2 draw with Saudi Arabia last Friday and picked their first win in an international friendly match in as many games with a narrow triumph over the Southern Africans.
Jose Peseiro’s side conceded early in the sixth minute thanks to a goal from Geny Catamo as Terem Moffi equalised for the three-time African champions in the 19th minute.
On the half-hour mark, Brentford midfielder, Frank Onyeka scored his first-ever goal for the national team to put the Super Eagles ahead.
The West Africans extended their lead through Moses Simon from the spot in the additional minutes of the first half.
Ten-man Mambas reduced the deficit in the 55th minute as Catamo set up Faisal Bangal after Edmilon Dove was sent off for a foul on Joe Aribo but was not enough to ruin the victory of the Super Eagles.
Peseiro’s side will shift their focus on the World Cup Qualifiers against Lesotho in Abuja on November 15.
This will be followed by another clash with Zimbabwe away from home three days later.
