Nigeria arrive Brisbane ahead of Women’s World Cup opener against Canada

Nigeria women’s national team arrived at its official camp for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup ahead of its opening match against Canada.

Randy Waldrum’s team arrived at the Sofitel Luxury hotel Brisbane and warmly welcomed by officials of the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA), Sunday afternoon.

The team departed Gold Coast where they had camped for two weeks ending over two years preparation for the biggest Women’s football mundial on Sunday.

Super Falcons will camp at the Sofitel luxurious hotel for the duration of the tournament in Australia. The nine-time African champions recorded a morale-boosting 8-1 victory over an Australian club, Lions FC in a friendly in Gold Coast on Saturday.

Asisat Oshoala (brace), Ifeoma Onumonu, Toni Payne, Rasheedat Ajibade, Halimatu Ayinde, Uchenna Kanu and Gift Monday scored for the West African powerhouse.

The most successful team in Africa will open its campaign against Olympic champions Canada at the Melbourne Rectangular Stadium on July 21.

This will be followed by another group encounter with co-host, Canada at Lang Park, Brisbane, on July 26, before trading tackles with debutant, the Republic of Ireland at Lang Park on July 31.

Nigerian team enjoyed a resounding 8-1 win against Australian Queensland NPL Champions, Lions FC, as they continue their preparation for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup on Saturday.
