Nigeria’s opponent at the women’s football event of the Paris 2024 Olympics, Brazil thrashed Jamaica 4-0 in the second leg of their friendly games with the Caribbean side on Wednesday.

It was a sweet revenge for the Selecao after Jamaica masterminded their ouster from the group stage of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup with a 0-0 draw.

The South American side paid their opponents back first with a 4-0 win thanks to Marta’s brace and a goal each from Adriana, and Chantelle Swaby (own goal) on June 1.

The return match turned out to produce the same result as Gabi Portilho set up Debinha for the first goal in the seventh minute.

The Reggae Girlz defensive line held the South American champions till the 64th minute when Jheniffer doubled the lead.

Cristiane assisted Jheniffer for her second goal of the game in the 79th minute while Marta completed the rout with their fourth goal for the Selecao in the 84th minute at the Fonte Nova, Salvador.

Brazil will open their Olympic campaign against Super Falcons at the Matmut Atlantique, Bordeaux on July 25.

The game will be the third meeting between both sides as Brazil had won the previous encounters.

They edged Nigeria 4-3 after extra time in an entertaining quarter-final match of the 1999 FIFA Women’s World Cup at the FedEx Field Landover.

The last encounter at the 2008 Olympics ended 3-1 in favour of Brazil at the Workers’ Stadium, in Beijing, China.

Randy Waldrum’s side will be looking for their first-ever win over the Copa America Femenina winners in all competitions at the Olympics.
