Nigeria launches ‘Let’s Do It Again’ mantra for 4th Africa Cup of Nations title ambition

Nigeria’s senior national team has adopted a mantra ahead of next year’s African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast.

The catchphrase “Let’s Dot It Again” has been adopted as the team’s battle cry towards winning the next AFCON.

The mantra was endorsed before the final AFCON 2023 qualification match against the Falcons and True Parrots of Sao Tome and Principe in Uyo last month and was the basis for players and officials donning a t-shirt with the inscription after the match at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo.

Super Eagles have won the AFCON on three occasions and will attempt to make it trophy number four in Ivory Coast.

In 1980, the West Africa giant won their first title in Lagos and clinched their second trophy in 1994 before claiming a third in 2013.

Team captain William Ekong says the playing body and crew have taken to the new mantra like bees to honey.

“We like the phrase because it gives us confidence and the go-go push,” Ekong posited in a press release by the NFF Communications Department.

“We have done it before so we can do it again. Winning the Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire is our goal and we have the team to do just that.”

Defender Kenneth Omeruo added: “I look around and I see players who have the capacity to make it happen. We are all ambitious. The team is a blend of old and wise heads and exciting new talents. We will go for the trophy in Cote d’Ivoire.”

The team will know their group opponents this week when the Confederation of African Football (CAF) conducts the draw in Ivory Coast.
