By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Nigeria’s senior men’s national team maintained their position on the latest FIFA rankings despite beating Lesotho and Benin Republic in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.

Morocco have retained their position as Africa’s highest-ranked national team in the latest FIFA World Rankings released for October 2025, sitting 12th in the world and first on the continent in the ranking released on Friday.

Senegal remain close behind in 18th place globally and second in Africa, while Egypt, Algeria, and Nigeria complete the top five.

Nigeria sit fifth in Africa and 41st in the world, holding steady despite recent mixed results in international fixtures.

Meanwhile, South Africa round out the top ten on the continent, placed 59th globally, reflecting the growing competitiveness among African nations in world football.

Among notable movers, Cape Verde (13th in Africa) and Ghana (14th) continue to battle for mid-table positions, while Mozambique, Comoros, and Mauritania show steady progress in the lower half of the rankings.

At the bottom of the African standings, Seychelles (204th), Somalia (202nd), and Djibouti (196th) remain among the continent’s lowest-ranked teams.

The next FIFA World Ranking update is expected in December 2025, as African teams prepare for crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches and continental competitions.
