Nigeria move 14 places upward in latest FIFA rankings after Afcon 2023 runners-up feat

Nigeria’s senior men’s national team have moved up to 28 in the latest world football rankings released by world’s football governing body, FIFA on Thursday.
The three-time Africa Cup of Nations, (AFCON) winners moved 14 places up on the ranking from 42nd position following their scintillating performances at the just concluded AFCON tournament in Ivory Coast.
Jose Peseiro’s men finished second as they lost 2-1 to Ivory Coast in the final.
Their impressive outing at AFCON has also seen moved to third in Africa rankings with only Morocco (1) and Senegal (2) ahead of them as best football nation in the continent.
The top ten African countries are as follows: 
Morocco 12th
Senegal 17th
Nigeria 28th
Egypt 36th
Ivory Coast 39th
Tunisia 41st
Algeria 43rd
Mali 47th
Cameroon 53rd
South Africa 58th
