Nigeria National League debunks cash reward story for Super 8

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde
Ahead of this season’s Nigeria National League (NNL) Super 8, the second-tier league body has debunked a story on cash rewards for participating teams.
This season’s NNL Super 8 is slated to take place in Asaba, Delta State, the venue that recently hosted the 2022/2023 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership Super Six.
In a press release issued by NNL Head of Media and Communication, Amar Ignis, the information contained in the story attributed to ckdmedia.ng, does not emanate from any source in the NNL.
“The NNL season-ending Super 8 playoffs is to be hosted by Delta State, at the Stephen Keshi Stadium Asaba.
Obviously, the writer mixed up his information on this, Edo State cannot be Delta State and still has Asaba in it.
At no time did NNL mention or released prices for its winners ahead of the Super 8 in Asaba,” the statement read.
The statement further clarifies the difference between NNL Super 8 and Naija Super 8.
“There is a huge difference between NNL Super 8 Playoffs and Naija Super 8. Naija Super 8 is a concept of some private individuals approved by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), it has teams across the country with the soul of creating excitement and bonding to the highest level using the instrumentality of Football as a global brand.
“The teams taking part in Naija Super have some NNL clubs like City FC, Heartland, Yobe Desert Stars, Katsina United, and Kano Pillars. gain, Naija Super 8 is not an NNL programme. Please we should not get it twisted.
“NNL has told the publisher to pull the story down, as it is misleading and quite embarrassing to the NNL and our sponsors of the NNL Super, Delta State government.
Lovers of football and ardent NNL watchers and followers should please ignore the story and the source. It is falsehood.
NNL would advise proper check of source of information in the future and should any writer who is in doubt of any information or news making the rounds at any point in time, should be at liberty to contact the communications department of NNL for clarification,” The statement concluded.
Eight clubs would take part in the Super 8 in Asaba with four qualifying for top-flight Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
EFCC FC, Katsina United, FC One Rocket, Sporting Lagos, Kano Pillars, DMD, Abeokuta Stormers, and Heartland FC will trade tackles for the four NPFL slots.
