Nigeria win U-20 Africa Cup of Nations Fair Play award after third-place finish

Nigeria were handed the Fair Play award at 2023 U-20 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) following a third place finish at the continent’s youth tournament on Saturday.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) Technical Study Group (TSG) awarded the seven-time African Champions for their professionalism, dedication, passion, and discipline during the tournament in Egypt.
Ladan Bosso’s side won four out of its six games at the championship, losing its first game to Senegal and the semi-final to The Gambia, scoring eight goals and conceded two in the process.
The Flying Eagles bounced back from the 1-0 semi-final loss to the Young Scorpions to claim the bronze medal after a 4-0 thrashing of Tunisia. The bronze medal was a record-extending fourth time for Nigeria at the competition.
Nigeria alongside African Champions, Senegal, The Gambia, and Tunisia will represent Africa at U20 World Cup and the West Africans will feature at FIFA draw on 31st March, taking place in Indonesia from 20th May – 11th June.
The seven-time African champions have reached the final of the FIFA U-20 World Cup twice, losing on both occasions to Portugal and Argentina respectively.
