Nkechi Obi, Chairman of the Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL), made a significant statement during the opening ceremony of the 2023 Sheroes Cup.
She revealed that the management of the NWFL will unveil welfare packages for players ahead of the 2023/2024 NWFL Premiership season which is slated to kick off on November 15.
She stated that the Sheroes Cup is an avenue for private bodies to showcase their support for women’s football.
Teams during the last NWFL Annual General Assembly (AGA) were drawn into two groups of eight and the topflight is set to improve the welfare packages of players during the season, according to the Chairman.
“In the coming season, the NWFL management will be unveiling a welfare package for players, demonstrating our commitment to the growth of women’s football,” Obi said.
“This competition has been instrumental in helping clubs prepare for the new season by assessing their players, especially newcomers.
“It is an excellent platform for private or corporate bodies to showcase their initiatives and support human development efforts,” she concluded.
Various marketing and fundraising initiatives were newly launched such as the Women Football Rising(c) campaign by the board to improve the welfare packages of players.
