Nigerian Striker Obinna Nsofor Set to Make Cape Town City Debut

Cape Town City FC is eagerly anticipating the debut of their recent acquisition, Nigerian striker Obinna Nsofor, in the upcoming matches this week. The Citizens are gearing up for a clash against Orlando Pirates at the iconic Orlando Stadium on Tuesday night, followed by a home fixture against Polokwane City on Friday evening.

While the chances of Nsofor’s participation against Pirates are currently described as “50/50” by Cape Town City official John Comitis, there is unwavering optimism that the former Super Eagles, West Ham, and Inter Milan marksman will be ready to feature in the match against Polokwane.

Cape Town City’s head coach, Benni McCarthy, played a pivotal role in securing Nsofor’s signing for the club. McCarthy, a former Bafana Bafana striker, revealed his close friendship with Nsofor, spanning from their time together in the Nigerian national team when they were strike partners and their encounter at West Ham.

McCarthy stated, “Obinna is a good friend of mine. I’ve known him from his days in the Nigerian national team, when he used to be a strike partner for Obafemi Martins. I came across him at West Ham. He was young then, and I took him under my wing as I was on the way out. We became friends, and we’ve just kept in touch over the years.”

The coach highlighted that Nsofor’s decision to move to South Africa marked his commitment to revitalizing his top-flight football career. McCarthy, who played a pivotal role in persuading Nsofor to join Cape Town City, expressed his delight at Nsofor’s arrival, emphasizing that it provides an exciting opportunity for the club to elevate its competitive standing.
