Nigeria’s dominance shines in 2023 WAFU-B U20 Women’s Cup group stage best XI

Six players from Nigeria’s victorious team secured spots in the Best XI of the 2023 U20 WAFU-B Women’s Cup group stage, as revealed by the organizers of the competition in Ghana.
With an impressive 3-0 victory over Burkina Faso in the final group match on Sunday, the Falconets emerged as the Group B winners and several individuals stood out with their exceptional performances.
The Super Falconets scored a total of 16 goals and are yet to concede a goal in the tournament as they dominated the Wafu B U20 group stage best 11.
The Best XI of the competition’s group stage, highlights the talent within coach Christopher Danjuma’s squad, as six Nigerian players earned their well-deserved places in this prestigious line-up.
In goal, goalkeeper Anderlin Mgbeche exhibited exceptional skills, conceding no goals throughout the three group stage matches of the tournament.
Another standout player, also named Chinyere Kalu, commanded the central defence with authority along with subtle fullback Jumoke Alani, Shukura Oladipo,and defense marshal Oluchi Ohaegbulem.
In attack, prolific forward Opeyemi Ajakaye with five goals in three games lead the forward line.
Nigeria had a perfect run in the group stage as they walloped Niger Republic 7-0 in the first game, crushed Togo 6-0 in the second encounter before seeing off Burkina Faso 3-0 in the last game of the group.
The Falconets will face neighbour Benin Republic in the semi-final on the 31st of May at the Baba Yara stadium, Kumasi Ghana.
Ajakaye, Esther Onyenezide and Taiwo Afolabi are the Nigeria players that have won the Player of the Match in the three matches respectively.
