NNL Super 8: Yobe Desert Stars, Osun United Stay on Track for NPFL Promotion

The 2024/25 Nigeria National League (NNL) Super 8 Playoffs heated up on Matchday 2 at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba, with Yobe Desert Stars and Osun United maintaining their promotion push.

Northern Conference

Yobe Desert Stars took control of the Northern group after a spirited 2-1 comeback win over Doma United.

John Zakka opened scoring for Doma, but Yobe replied in the second half with goals from Yakubu Abdullahi and Umar Idris.

In the other fixture, Barau FC and Wikki Tourists played out a goalless draw.

Northern Conference Standings (After Matchday 2):

1. Yobe Desert Stars – 4 pts

2. Wikki Tourists – 2 pts

3. Barau FC – 2 pts

4. Doma United – 1 pt

Southern Conference

Osun United remain unbeaten after a dramatic 1-1 draw with Crown FC.

Wasiu Falolu gave Crown the lead in the 55th minute.

Osun were reduced to ten men after Lekan Gabriel saw red, but Nurudeen Abolude salvaged a point with a late equaliser.

Warri Wolves recorded the biggest win of the day, thrashing Kun Khalifat FC 3-0, with Jude netting a brace and Efe Yarhere also scoring.

Southern Conference Standings (After Matchday 2):

1. Osun United – 4 pts

2. Warri Wolves – 3 pts

3. Kun Khalifat FC – 3 pts

4. Crown FC – 1 pt

What’s Next:

The final group games will decide the top teams in each conference who will secure promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL). Yobe and Osun United are currently in pole position to return to the top flight.
