Nottingham Forest Sign Super Falcons Forward Joy Omewa from Fortuna Hjørring

Nottingham Forest have confirmed the signing of Nigerian forward Joy Omewa from Danish giants Fortuna Hjørring on a permanent deal running until the end of the 2025/26 season.

The 23-year-old joins Forest after an outstanding spell in Denmark, where she established herself as one of the most prolific attackers in the Kvindeligaen.

Omewa began her football journey in Nigeria with Osun Babes before moving on to Confluence Queens. Her European career started in April 2021 with Boldklubben af 1893 (B.93), where she scored three goals in nine appearances, earning a move to Fortuna Hjørring later that year.

During a five-year stint with Fortuna Hjørring, Omewa scored over 50 goals, winning the Danish Women’s Cup twice and helping the club secure the Kvindeligaen title in the 2024/25 season. Her impact during that historic league-and-cup double campaign was recognised with the Kvindeligaen Player of the Season award.

At international level, Omewa has represented Nigeria at U17 and U20 levels before making her senior Super Falcons debut last year. She featured in Nigeria’s two-legged victory over Benin Republic in the qualifiers for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

Reacting to the signing, Nottingham Forest Women head coach Carly Davies expressed her excitement at adding the Nigerian striker to her squad.

“We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Joy Omewa to Nottingham Forest,” Davies said.
“Joy’s incredible goal-scoring prowess speaks for itself. She’s a dynamic forward with a natural instinct in front of goal, and her ability to find the net consistently at both club and international level makes her a fantastic addition to our squad.

“Joy is exactly the type of player who can help us push forward and achieve our ambitions.”

Omewa, meanwhile, said she is eager to begin the next chapter of her career in England.

“I am delighted to sign for Nottingham Forest. It’s an ambitious club and I’m excited to be a part of this team,” she said.
“I can’t wait to get started for this club and I think I can add a lot to an already talented group at Forest.”

Forest will be hoping Omewa’s proven scoring record translates quickly as they look to strengthen their attacking options.
