NPFL: Abia Warriors announces four new additions for new season
By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde
Nigeria Professional Football League side, Abia Warriors on Monday announced the signing of four players ahead of the 2022/2023 NPFL season.
The club on its social media pages unveiled the quartet of Femi Thomas, Iwu Emmanuel, Aniekwe Ugonna, and Isah Saidu.
Goalkeeper, Femi Thomas joined Abia Warrior from another NPFL side, Heartland FC.
With Heartland during the 2021/2022 season, Femi Thomas played eight league games during his season spell.
His move to Abia Warriors might be linked to getting more playing times in the top flight as Heartland got relegated to second-tier Nigeria National League (NNL) at the end of the season.
Another goalkeeper, Iwu Emmanuel switched from Kwara United after playing three league games for the 2022/2023 CAF Confederation Cup campaigners.
Aniekwe Ugonna moved to Abia Warriors from relegated MFM while Isah Saidu was with Lagos side, Ottasolo FC before completing his switch.
Abia Warriors finished the 2021/2022 NPFL season in the 13th position with 50 points after 38 games.
The team will hope to surpass last season’s performance when the new season kicks off at a yet-to-be-announced date.
