Rivers United secured a 2-0 win against Remo Stars in a rescheduled Nigeria Premier Football League match in Port Harcourt on Thursday.

The former Remo Stars player scored the second goal which sealed the win, the first for the Pride of Rivers in the league this season.

The Port Harcourt side opted for Abiodun Akande in goal as he started the game alongside Ghanaian import Samuel Antwi, Endurance Ebedebiri, Deputy Echeta, Temple Emekayi, Eyinnaya Kazie, Nwangwa Nyima, Paul Odeh, Augustine Okejepha, Alex Oyowah, and Adamu Sadiq.

Stanley Eguma’s side had suffered a 1-0 loss to Niger Tornadoes in their first match of the season, Andy Okpe’s 90th-minute goal coupled with Alex Oyowah’s first-half penalty ensured the hosts triumph.

For the Sky Blue Stars, they had to come from a goal down to earn a 2-1 win against Enugu Rangers in Ikenne last weekend.

Coach Daniel Ogunmodede started the game with Kayode Bankole in goal along with Olamilekan Adedayo, Qudus Akanni, Ahmed Akinyele, Jide Fatokun, Stanley Joseph, Nduka Junior, Samad Kadiri, Oluwaseun Ogunribide, Alimi Sikiru, and Ismaila Sodiq as starters.

Oyowah opened the scoring for the hosts in the 14th minute from the penalty spot.

Former Remo Stars player, Okpe converted the second goal for Rivers United in the 90th minute.

Both sides have three points ahead of their weekend games after two games.
