NPFL: Bethel Orji relieved with Abia Warriors win against Akwa United
By Saheed Afolabi
Abia Warriors coach, Bethel Orji, expressed relief and satisfaction after his team secured their Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) status for the next season with a crucial victory over Akwa United.
The Umuahia-based side secured the win thanks to a brace from forward Sunday Megwo as Orji stressed the tactical adjustments made by the team, which he credited for their victory despite missing several scoring opportunities.
He emphasized the importance of patience and strategic play in achieving the desired results.
“We did everything tactically to secure the victory. I approach every game one at a time. We created chances but couldn’t convert them. We had to go back to the drawing board and emphasize patience in the box,” Orji explained to the press.
“We adjusted our tactical approach by focusing more on playing the ball wide to the wings, and this decision paid off with the desired results.”
Looking ahead, Abia Warriors will travel to face Doma United in their final NPFL match of the season.
Despite securing their status, Orji is determined to end the season on a positive note and continue building momentum for the future.
