NPFL breakout star Osoba joins Serbia’s OFK Beograd after Akwa United exploits

By Dayo Awoniyi

Nigerian teenage striker Osoba has completed a long-term transfer to Serbian top-flight club OFK Beograd, following a breakout season with Akwa United in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

Born on February 12, 2007, the 18-year-old forward rose to prominence during the 2024/25 NPFL season, where his eye-catching performances, blistering pace, and clinical finishing made him one of the league’s most talked-about young talents.

Osoba’s stellar form not only earned him domestic recognition but also attracted interest from European scouts, culminating in his move to OFK Beograd—a club renowned for developing young prospects into elite-level players across Europe.

The move marks a significant milestone in the teenager’s career and highlights Nigeria’s growing reputation as a breeding ground for top football talent.

“His raw potential, technical skill, and goal-scoring instinct make him a perfect fit for our long-term project,” an OFK Beograd club source said, welcoming the new signing.

OFK Beograd, one of Serbia’s oldest and most historic clubs, has a strong track record of nurturing African talent. Osoba now joins a list of young West African players using the Serbian SuperLiga as a launchpad to Europe’s top five leagues.

His transfer underscores a broader trend of European clubs investing in emerging talents from the NPFL, as the Nigerian domestic league continues to raise its competitive standards and scouting value.

Osoba is expected to join his new team immediately as he begins pre-season preparations with OFK Beograd ahead of the 2025/26 Serbian SuperLiga campaign.
