NPFL chieftains visit Spanish Ambassador to cement further partnership

The board members of the Nigeria Premier Football League have paid a courtesy visit to the Spanish Ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency Juan Ignacio Sell on Friday.

The courtesy visit made after the 2024 Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) in Abuja was aimed at furthering the diplomatic ties between Nigeria and Spain in terms of football development.

The meeting between the NPFL chieftains and the Ambassador, which has been described as hugely successful, centered on how to build on the already existing cordial relationship between the two nations to accelerate football development in Nigeria.

Expectedly, in the coming days, the gains of the meeting with the Spanish Ambassador will begin to manifest.

This is because the number one citizen of Spain in Nigeria who warmly welcomed the board members to his office made a solemn pledge to give every necessary support to the NPFL board to carry out its mandate.

Undoubtedly, the partnership with the Spanish Embassy in Nigeria will impact positively on the 20 clubs in the Nigerian topflight.

Those who attended the meeting with His Excellency Ignacio Sell were the Chairman of the NPFL, Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye, the Chief Operating Officer of the NPFL, Davidson Owunmi, Vice Chairman/ CEO of Lobi Stars and former Nigerian international, Dominic Iorfa, NPFL Secretary, Barrister Danladi Ibrahim, Mr. Nelson of GTI Group and others.

The meeting was apt in preparation for the 2024/2025 season slated for next month.

Spanish football has been on the rise with the women’s and men’s teams winning the last UEFA Nations League and the La Furia Rojas claiming the 2024 UEFA Europeans Championships.

This success especially the ones seen in the Spanish LaLiga is expected to rub off on Nigeria with the partnership.
