NPFL: Daniel Ogunmodede reflects on Remo Stars comeback win over Abia Warriors

By Wale Mustapha

Remo Stars Technical Adviser, Daniel Ogunmodede, has opened up about the tactical adjustments that led to his side’s thrilling 3-2 comeback win over Abia Warriors on Wednesday in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday 21 clash at Ikenne.

The Sky Blues were in a tough spot after Abia Warriors took a 2-0 lead in the first half, courtesy of goals from Ayodele Ezekiel and Anthony Ijoma.

However, Remo Stars responded with three second-half goals from Olamilekan Adebayo, Jabbar Malik, and Franck Mawuena, securing a dramatic turnaround and maintaining their position at the top of the table.

Ogunmodede admitted that his side had underestimated their opponents, which nearly cost them the match.

“The game was tense and shocking in the first half on our home ground. Not every time you will be lucky against a great team we played against,” he said in a post-match interview.

“We underestimated the qualities of our opponent, and we were punished for it. But luckily, we identified the problem and readjusted to get the victory.”

With the win, Remo Stars now sit on 42 points from 21 matches and will look to build on their success when they face Sunshine Stars in a South West derby this coming Sunday.
