NPFL: Deji Ayeni reveals how Akwa United silenced Shooting Stars in Uyo

Deji Ayeni, Head Coach of Akwa United has revealed how his side were able to overpower hard-fighting Shooting Stars in a Nigeria Premier Football League encounter played in Uyo on Sunday.

Two second half goals within three minutes saw the Promise Keepers continued to keep alive their quest to secure playoffs spot two weeks after both teams settled for 2-2 draw in the reverse fixture played in Ibadan.

After a drab first half, captain Ubong Friday fired Akwa United into the lead in the 53rd minute after receiving a good pass from Cyril Olisema before James Ajako set up Taiye Muritala to fire past goalkeeper Odah a minute later.

An impressed manager lauded his boys for sticking to game plan just as he reemphasized the team’s Super Six target.

“I’m excited that we were able to win the game It was a tough game, we studied our them well in the first-half and capitalized on their weaknesses in the second-half,” Ayeni told NigeriaFootball.ng.

“It was a good outing for us, and we hope to improve on our performance in subsequent games until we achieve our target which is to qualify for the Super-Six playoffs.”

Akwa United will next take on Group A league leaders Bendel Insurance in Benin on Matchday 11 on Wednesday March 29, 2023.
