George Finidi, Technical Adviser of Rivers United, has lauded his team for their commendable performance in earning a crucial point against Insurance FC on Sunday.

Despite being reduced to 10 men for the final 30 minutes following the dismissal of goalkeeper Adeniyi Bamidele before the 60-minute mark, the Pride of Rivers held their hosts to a goalless draw in their Matchday One encounter of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin.

Finidi expressed his contentment with the result under such challenging conditions. “Securing a point at a difficult venue like this is never easy. Playing with one man down, I must commend my boys for their exceptional defensive efforts and determination,” he said.

He noted that this result is just the beginning of the season and stressed the importance of building on this performance. “This is only the start. We need to regroup and prepare for our upcoming fixtures. We’ll be playing at home next, and we’re committed to giving our best to secure a win. Every game in the NPFL presents its own challenges.”

Finidi emphasized the significance of the point gained. “We’re happy with this point. The team gave their all, and securing this one point is crucial for us,” he added.

Rivers United will host Heartland FC in their first home game of the season on Sunday, September 15.
