NPFL: Ismaila Mayaki not losing hope in Wikki Tourists’ survival chances
By Wale Mustapha
Wikki Tourists defensive midfielder, Ismaila Mayaki insists he does not see the club dropping from the Nigeria Premier Football League, citing the depth and quality of their current squad this season.
Wikki Tourists of Bauchi are threading on the path of losing their top-flight status with their present position in the Group B of the 2022/2023 abridged season, having picked only eight points from nine matches in the first round.
The Bauchi-based side are placed ninth on Group B standings, with two wins, drew two, and lost five, scoring six goals and conceding 11 and Maiyaki who is in his third season since arriving from Nasarawa United in 2020, feels the club’s current position on the league standing is not a true reflection of their league performance so far.
“Yes, we didn’t start the season on a sound footing and it affected us to son extent,” Mayaki exclusively told nigeriafootball.ng.
“We’ve been able to stabilize before the end of the first round and I’m confident we will be stronger in the second round. “Wikki is a team with quality players, we play good football as a unit, sometimes luck may run against you to get the results you need but we believe in our abilities.
“I don’t see us going down because we will raise our games in the second round, it may be a tough one but with few injections of new players to be added, we will look better.”
Wikki Tourists will restart the second stanza of the league with a home game against Sunshine Stars at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium in Bauchi on March 29.
