NPFL issues Barau FC security warning after steward breach
The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has formally warned Barau FC over security failures during the club’s home matches.
The league’s intervention follows the circulation of a video on social media showing several Barau FC stewards moving onto the field of play after the club’s Matchday 10 fixture against Kwara United.
In a statement signed by the NPFL Chief Operating Officer, Dr Ayo Abdulrahaman, the league described the incident as a serious security concern. It cautioned that allowing such behaviour to continue could lead to a major security breach.
The NPFL reminded Barau FC that stewards must remain in their assigned areas within the terraces. Their role is to help control the crowd and maintain order among supporters during matches.
Stewards are not permitted to enter restricted zones or encroach onto the pitch, the league added. It also made clear that responsibility for their conduct rests entirely with the host club.
Barau FC have been warned that they will face sanctions if a similar incident takes place during any of their future home fixtures.
The NPFL has instructed the club’s management to act immediately by strengthening its security arrangements and ensuring full compliance with established matchday security regulations.
The warning forms part of the league’s wider effort to enforce security standards at clubs and protect players, officials, supporters and all other participants at matches.
