NPFL: Kwara United extend unbeaten run with victory over Remo Stars

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Kwara United Football Club continued their impressive unbeaten run in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) with a commanding 3–1 win over Remo Stars on Saturday in a Matchday 11 encounter in Ilorin.

The Harmony Boys displayed class and determination from the start, dictating play and showing clear intent to consolidate their fine form, while the visitors from Ikenne created a few nervy moments for the home crowd.

Junior Aimufua opened the scoring for Kwara United in the 30th minute, tapping in from close range after Arinze Ogbonna’s flicked header met Seun Ogunribide’s long throw. The goal sent the Ilorin fans into celebration as the hosts went into halftime with a 1–0 lead.

Kwara United suffered an early setback when Akanni Akeem sustained an injury and was replaced by Mohammed Alao, but the team maintained their rhythm and composure.

In the second half, Babatunde Bright doubled the advantage in the 75th minute with a beautifully struck free-kick from the edge of the box, before Aimufua completed his brace in the 87th minute, coolly slotting past the Remo Stars goalkeeper. Jabbar Malik pulled one back for the visitors in stoppage time, but it proved to be only a consolation.

Head coach Ashifat Suleiman expressed delight with the performance, attributing the result to teamwork, discipline, and defensive organization.

“This victory is a reward for our discipline and focus. The boys were excellent in their execution and showed great tactical awareness,” Suleiman said.

He also dedicated the win to the SWAN Diamond Jubilee Anniversary awardees, including Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, Club Chairman Kumbi Titiloye, and veteran sports broadcaster Hammed Adio, among others.

Suleiman added that the result would serve as a morale booster ahead of the team’s upcoming double away fixtures in Matchdays 12 and 13.

With the victory, Kwara United move up to fifth place on the NPFL table, with 16 points from 11 matches, maintaining one of the league’s most consistent forms this season.
