NPFL: Ladan Bosso resigns as Barau FC head coach, assistant Rabi’u Tata takes over

By Dayo Awoniyi

Veteran coach Ladan Bosso has stepped down as head coach of Barau FC just days before the club’s high-stakes Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) derby against Kano Pillars, the club confirmed on Wednesday.

Bosso’s resignation, which the club said was due to personal and family reasons, comes at a critical point in the season for the newly promoted Kano-based side. His departure marks the end of a brief but stabilizing tenure during Barau FC’s debut campaign in Nigeria’s top flight.

The announcement adds further intrigue to Sunday’s Matchday 9 fixture, which will be played behind closed doors at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kofarmata. The encounter is expected to be one of the most closely watched clashes of the NPFL season despite the absence of fans in the stands.

Bosso, a former Flying Eagles coach and one of Nigeria’s most experienced tacticians, had been credited with guiding Barau FC through a challenging start, helping the team find its footing among more established NPFL sides.

In response to his exit, the club has appointed Rabi’u Tata as interim technical adviser. Tata, who has previously managed teams in the Nigeria National League (NNL), is set to lead the team into the derby and will oversee preparations in the coming days. His appointment is seen as a move to inject fresh ideas into the squad as Barau FC aim to climb up the table.

The club thanked Bosso for his contributions and wished him success in his future endeavors. Meanwhile, supporters are hopeful that the sudden coaching change will not disrupt the team’s rhythm ahead of one of the most important matches of their season.
