NPFL: Lobi Stars boss Philip Nongu justifies dismissal of Eugene Agagbe

By Saheed Afolabi

Lobi Stars chairman Philip Nongu has explained the decision to part ways with former head coach Eugene Agagbe, citing poor results and the club’s inability to meet set targets.

Agagbe’s dismissal came shortly after the announcement of former Super Eagles forward Daniel Amokachi as the new head coach of the Makurdi-based side.

Nongu revealed that Agagbe was given clear objectives, but failed to deliver results, leading to the decision to terminate his contract.

“The board gave him a clear target, but unfortunately, he couldn’t deliver,” Nongu said during a press conference in Makurdi.

“With the club’s performance deteriorating, we had no choice but to make a change.”

Lobi Stars, who currently sit 17th in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) standings with just four points from five matches, have been struggling to find form.

Amokachi’s first challenge will be to turn things around as Lobi Stars prepare to face Niger Tornadoes in their next match at the Bako Stadium in Minna on Saturday, October 12.

The Pride of Benue will be hoping that Amokachi’s leadership can inspire a resurgence in their quest to climb up the NPFL table.
