By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

The 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season entered Matchday three on Sunday with ten fixtures across the country, producing late drama, derby battles, and crucial points at both ends of the table.

Champions Remo Stars climbed to the summit after edging Warri Wolves 1-0 in Abeokuta. Samson Olasupo struck in the 77th minute to end Wolves’ perfect start to the campaign.

In Minna, Niger Tornadoes also halted Bayelsa United’s winning streak with a narrow 1-0 victory courtesy of Ismail Sarki’s 27th-minute effort.

Wikki Tourist rose to second place after Jonathan Mairiga netted the decisive goal in a 1-0 win over Abia Warriors.

In the northern derby, Katsina United defeated Kano Pillars 1-0 thanks to a first-half strike from Azeez Falolu, lifting them into the top five.

Newcomers Barau FC are still chasing their first-ever NPFL victory after settling for a 1-1 draw with Bendel Insurance. Alex Oweilayefa put the Benin side ahead, but Yahaya Ibrahim equalised for Barau.

Kwara United secured a 2-0 home win in Ilorin against Kun Khalifat FC, with goals from Johnmark Shirsha and Emeka Kingsley. Similarly, Rangers International picked up their first three points of the season, defeating Plateau United 2-0 through Chidozie Iwundu and Chidiebere Nwobodo.

In Ibadan, Shooting Stars’ winless run continued as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Ikorodu City in a tense South-West derby. Sodiq Ibrahim gave 3SC an early lead, but Shola Adelani replied for the visitors.

Meanwhile, El Kanemi Warriors vs Rivers United and Enyimba vs Nasarawa United both ended goalless.

At the other end, Plateau United remain bottom without a point after three games, while Kun Khalifat FC and Kano Pillars sit just above with a point each.
