NPFL MD 20 Wrap: Remo Stars secure victory in Uyo to open five points gap atop league table

Remo Stars edged Akwa United 2-1 in Matchday 20 of the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo on Sunday.

Uche Sabastine gave Akwa United the lead in the sixth minute, but two goals in the last 16 minutes of the encounter from Samuel Anakwe and Adedayo Olamilekan sealed a precious win for the Sky Blue Stars.

In Umuahia, John Bassey’s 57th-minute goal separated Heartland FC from Lobi Stars.

Plateau United relied on a late goal from Emmanuel Ihezuo to see off Rivers United 2-1.

Olawale Doyeni had opened the scoring for the Northern side in the 21st minute before Ndifreke Effiong leveled matters for the Pride of Rivers.

Earlier on Saturday, Abia Warriors pipped Bayelsa United 1-0 the same scoreline between Nasarawa United which edged Katsina United.

Niger Tornadoes stunned Rangers International 2-1 in Enugu, while Sunshine Stars came out victoriously in a 4-3 win over Ikorodu City in the South West derby, which took place in Ikenne.

Overall, Remo Stars top the log with 39 points ahead of Rivers United with 34 points.

Shooting Stars have an outstanding game and occupy the third position with 33 points, two points better than Rangers, and they are ahead of the Abia Warriors.

Bendel Insurance (21), Lobi Stars (20), Akwa United (19), and Nasarawa United (19) occupy the bottom places on the table.

Enyimba will face Kwara United at the Ilorin Stadium Complex on Monday.
