NPFL MD 29 Wrap: Plateau United win big over Doma as Remo Stars edge Akwa United

Matchday 29 of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) gets underway with two games on Saturday, with Plateau United thrashing Doma United 4-0 in Jos to continue their push for continental qualifications.

Two goals in each half lifted the host to a comfortable victory over the visitors from Gombe State.

David Onovo and Daniel Barnabas gave the Jos-based side a 2-0 lead at halftime.

After the interval, Anthony Sunday and Bernard Mundi extended their lead to four.

The win ended Plateau United’s three-match losing streak while the loss was Doma United’s second in four games.

Plateau United occupies the fifth position with 47 points while Doma United sits in the 11th spot with 37 points.

Meanwhile, Remo Stars moved up to the second spot after a 2-1 win against Akwa United in Ikenne.

First-half goals from Emmanuel Adebayo and Sikiru Alimi who scored from a penalty gave the Sky Blue Stars a 2-0 lead at halftime.

Cameroon’s Gerome Heutchou reduced the deficit for the Uyo-based side two minutes into the second half.

With an outstanding match, Remo Stars sits in the second position with 47 points after 28 games.

Akwa United remained relegation threatened in the 18th position with 31 points.

There are seven more games to be played on Sunday with the Rivers United match postponed due to their continental engagement.
