Ikorodu City head coach, Nurudeen Aweroro, has played down suggestions that his team is in the race for the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title, despite their impressive 4-1 victory over Akwa United on Sunday.
The win propelled the Oga Boys to third place on the league table, but Aweroro emphasized that his side’s primary focus is on securing enough victories to maintain their top-flight status.
“I feel so happy for the win because it moved us up on the log,” Aweroro said in an interview with Ikorodu City media.
“We are not mounting any title challenge. Our main goal is to win games and ensure we remain in the league.”
With their eyes firmly set on survival rather than silverware, Ikorodu City will now prepare for their next challenge as they face Bayelsa United in Yenagoa.
The team will be hoping to build on their recent success to secure further points in their quest for NPFL stability.
