NPFL: Paul Bassey explains Fatai Osho’s unfortunate resignation from Akwa United
By Saheed Afolabi
The chairman of Akwa United, Paul Bassey has revealed the incidences and happenings that led to the departure of Fatai Osho from the team.
Osho joined the Promise Keepers at the start of the season from Rivers United but he found it hard to transform his philosophy on the club despite their attractive style of play.
The veteran journalist Bassey said Osho paid the price for poor run of results which is a tradition for the sport world, stressing that Osho is a good coach but unfortunately his brand of football failed him at Akwa United.
“Coach Osho is a victim of world wide football tradition where coaches, no matter how good, pay the price for poor run of their teams,” Bassey told Akwa United media.
”He is a good coach, he remains one of the best in the land, unfortunately, it did not work for him at Akwa United.
“Osho came to a club that in the past eight years boasts a tradition of excellence, hence the misgivings of our supporters world wide. He is a victim of Akwa United’s success. We wish him well going forward.
“We have received so many applications home and abroad and we are not in a hurry to make a decision. For now, the assistant coaches led by Umar Abdullahi are in charge of the team.”
Akwa United sit in the relegation zone on 17th position on the NPFL log with 15 points from 15 matches.
