NPFL: Rivers United peg Remo Stars lead to five points

Remo Stars lead at the top of the 2024/25 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) is now down to five points after Rivers United edged Ikorodu City FC 1-0 at the end of Matchday 30 on Sunday.

Stephen Manyo scored the winner for the Pride of Rivers in the additional minutes of the second half.

Remo Stars had demanded that their game against Lobi Stars this weekend be postponed due to their two goalkeepers who are on international duty.

Bankole Kayode is in the camp of Super Eagles, while Benin Republic has Obassa Adebiyi in their fold.

Elsewhere, Abia Warriors moved to third place after a 1-0 victory against Heartland FC.

Ojonugwa Adejoh’s 81st-minute goal separated both sides.

In Ibadan, Shooting Stars ended their winless streak with a 3-1 win over Niger Tornadoes.

Ayodeji Bamidele, Anthony Okachi, and Samuel Okon found the back of the net for the Oluyole Warriors while Sunday Williams reduced the deficit for the visitors.

In Aba, Enyimba FC and Bayelsa United played out a 1-1 in the South-South derby.

Goals from Ekene Awazie and Ifeanyi Ogba in the first nine minutes of action ensured that both sides shared the spoils.

Finally, Katsina United secured a 3-0 win against El Kanemi Warriors thanks to goals from Moses Achare, Lukman Bello, and Taofeek Ahmed.

Remo Stars, Rivers United, Abia Warriors, and Shooting Stars hold the top four places.

Akwa United, Heartland FC, Sunshine Stars, and Lobi Stars sit in the last four positions.
