NPFL: Stanley Eguma identifies Enyimba FC problems

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

The newly appointed coach of Enyimba FC, Stanley Eguma, says he has now identified the problems of the team ahead of the second stanza of the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

The People’s Elephant played out a 1-1 draw with Bendel Insurance in the last league game of 2024 on December 31, 2024, during Eguma’s first match in charge.

Eguma was appointed as the new head coach of the two-time Africa champions this week after the club parted ways with Yemi Olanrewaju due to a stuttering start to the league campaign, which also snowballed to the CAF Confederation Cup as the club occupied the bottom of their group.

Eguma, who remained the longest-serving coach in the NPFL, asserted that the major problem of Enyimba FC is in the attacking department.

“I’ve only been with the club for about 48 hours, and from what I’ve observed, it’s clear the attack is the biggest headache and problem of the team,” He said.

“Thankfully, this is the last match of the first round. We’ll have to utilize the transfer window to bring in quality and clinical finishers to strengthen the attack.

“The team plays as a unit, but they need better tactical attacking qualities to ensure we score goals consistently. Without goals, you can’t win games. This principle will also apply to other areas where we are lacking”, he explained.

Tuesday’s 0-0 draw with Bendel Insurance was Enyimba’s seventh straight draw in the league this season.

Despite being on eight matches unbeaten run, the People’s Elephant have won one and drawn seven of those games while hoping to pick their first win in the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup against the Black Bulls of Mozambique on January 5, 2025.
