NPFL: Stanley Eguma sets ambitious targets for Enyimba’s new campaign

By Oluwadamilola Olaleye

As the 2025/2026 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season approaches, Enyimba head coach Stanley Eguma has made it clear that his team is poised to mount a serious challenge for the title, with the added goal of securing a continental spot.

The former Rivers United tactician, who took over the reins at Enyimba, is determined to improve on last season’s 6th-place finish. The Aba-based club will kick off their campaign with a fixture against newly promoted Barau FC, but Eguma’s eyes are set firmly on the bigger picture.

“In terms of targets, Enyimba as a team has a goal, and as a coach, I have my own ambitious target. That target is to win the league or, at the very least, secure a continental ticket,” Eguma told the club’s media team.

Having already achieved significant success in his career, Eguma is hungry for more.

“Having achieved this before, I think I should now aim for something even greater, and that’s what the club is also striving for,” he continued.

Enyimba, who boast a rich history with 9 NPFL titles and two CAF Champions League trophies, are aiming to return to their dominant form. “Anything short of that [winning the title or securing a continental ticket] would not be a good achievement,” Eguma asserted.

The 56-year-old coach is confident that with the right approach, the team can surpass their previous performances. “Before the management sets a target for me, I’ve already set one for myself. I’m very ambitious, and I feel I have a lot to offer,” he concluded.

With such a clear vision and strong leadership, Eguma’s Enyimba is expected to be one of the top contenders in the new season as they aim to reclaim their position at the top of Nigerian football.
