NPFL Super 6: Finidi George berates officiating in Enyimba draw against Insurance
By Wale Mustapha
Enyimba head coach George Finidi has called on the Interim Management Committee (IMC) to demand for an improvement from match officials handling the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Super Six playoffs.
Sadiq Abubakar had shot the People’s Elephants in front with a brilliant curling effort in the 12th minute of the match but Divine Nwachukwu leveler for the Benin Arsenals to deny the Aba based outfit the full points.
Following the setback, the former international is not in happy mood as he lamented some questionable calls from match officials during the encounter.
“I’m kind of disappointed, not a good result for us considering what we want to achieve, but what I can I say, you all saw it with officiating,” George said to Nigeriafootball.ng.
“I thought a tournament like this should be a top notch but no, we had to protect to every actions from match officials which is something that’s not okay, especially for the image of this league.
“I’m worried about what I saw in the games so far, I’m sure you all saw it too, so I wish it can be better and improved because its very disappointing.
“Moving forward with our game, we will work hard and be ready for it, we’ll see how it goes but we will need to get the boys recover on time for the task ahead.”
With five points from three games, Enyimba look destined for a spot in the top three which will earn them a continental berth in either the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup next season.
They will be taking on Sunshine Stars in Matchday Four with the hope to getting a decent result that will boost their chances of finishing stronger in the playoffs.
