NPFL Super 6: GTI reveals reasons behind playoff participation payment delay

By Monsurah Olatunji
The Interim Management Committee ( IMC) has revealed why the Strategic Partners of Nigeria Premier Football League, GTI, are yet to pay the appearance fee of five million Naira to some of the participating teams.
According to the management, some clubs failed to submit their account details and GTI has refused to pay into individual accounts.
In an interview, IMC Chief Operating Officer, Davidson Owumi said that some chairmen of the clubs insisted on receiving the money into their personal account on behalf of the clubs and GTI as a reputable company will not do such.
“GTI is a reputable company that keeps its promise. If you recall, after the Super 4 that heralded the league, we made sure that participating funds were paid into the four clubs accounts.
“When we discovered that 3SC was claiming to have received N50m instead of N100m, we invited them to Abuja and paid them their N100m to kill such negative news.
“As for the payment of N5m for each of the six participating teams in the Super 6 Playoffs. Some of the Chairmen of the clubs submitted their personal account and they (GTI) refused to pay into the account. Even this morning, we requested for their clubs’ accounts but they have not sent it till now and we will not be paying into individual accounts to avoid further negative feedback.”
Enyimba International emerged champions of the 2023 Nigeria Premier Football League with nine points in five matches and are expected to receive N100 million prize money from the company.
