NPFL Super 6 MD2 Wrap: Rivers hold Remo, Enyimba dim Lobi, Insurance ride on

The Nigeria Premier Football League championship playoffs continued to produce exciting moments with interesting results in the Matchday Two at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan producing seven goals from the three games.

 Rivers United and Remo Stars truly lived up to the hype as the star match of the day between as four games were recorded in that encounter.

Rivers United came into that fixture with superiority haven won the first game against Lobi and holding a good runs against Remo who have not beaten the defending champions in their previous meetings.

Stanley Eguma’s side made their superiority felt against Remo, with early goal from n captain Nyima Nwagua tucked in from a rebound.

Remo Stars produced a second half resurgence and dominated most part of it which earned them the equalizer in the 71st minutes when Lekan Adedayo arrived in the box on time to smash in Olamilekan Adam’s pass.

The Sky Blues Stars almost turned the game on on its head in the added as Adebayo’s screamer beat Victor Sochima for their second goal.

The lead could not last long as Rivers dug in with the character of a champions to even the score with last touch of the match as Adefemi Lukman jabbed in a cut back pass from Chiamaka Madu.

The result saw Remo recoding two draws from opening two games while Rivers now have four points.

The opening match of the day saw Enyimba beating uninspiring Lobi Stars by a lone goal registering their first win of the championship.

Emeka Obioma’s 16th minutes header proved decisive on the day as it gave the People’s Elephants assurance of winning their ninth title.

The final game of Matchday Two recorded a draw between Sunshine Stars and Insurance as  a match that produced numerous scoring chances from ends could only see both sides logged in a goal each.

Divine Nwachukwu scored one of many from Insurance with seventh minutes’ effort as he latched on to a lose ball with ricocheted gathering of legs before beating goalkeeper Mustapha Lawal of Sunshine.

Insurance’s top scorer, Imade could have wrapped things up for the Benin Arsenal before the break but fluffed several of his efforts.

Edith Agoye tweaked his Sunshine side in the second half and it paid off for the Owena Whales with the equalizer.

Ekerette Udoh ghosted into vital area to bundle home the goal that ended the tie 1-1 and gave Sunshine their first point of the championship..

By virtue of Monday’s results, Enyimba are leading the log with four points, same as Rivers United who are now second on the standings.

Remo Stars are third on the log with two points while In Insurance occupies fourth position.

Sunshine Stars are fifth with a point while Lobi Stars are sixth on the log ahead of Matchday Three will be coming up on Wednesday at the same venue.
