By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde
After a 1-0 loss to holders Rivers United, head coach of Sunshine Stars, Edith Agoye is confident that his wards can get a good result against Bendel Insurance in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Super Six, on Monday.
The Akure-based side surprisingly qualified for the NPFL Championship Playoffs from Group B alongside holders, Rivers United and Lobi Stars.
The former Nigerian International insists his team’s qualification for the Super Six was not a fluke and keen to prove a point against the Benin Arsenals.
“We have a bunch of good players and what you saw there on the field of play is not a fluke,” Agoye told media.
“This is how we did throughout the season. That’s why we are in the Super Six. “We are very happy that we played against the defending champions of Nigerian football and a continental team.
“We gave everything on the field of play but couldn’t take our chances. Hopefully, in the next game, we will take them.”
Ebube Duru’s 64th-minute penalty separated Rivers United from Sunshine Stars on Saturday. The team will now focus on facing Group A leaders, Bendel Insurance on Monday at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Lagos.
Insurance holds a 19-game unbeaten run in the NPFL since it gained promotion from second-tier Nigeria National League (NNL) in 2022.
