By Wale Mustapha
There were no changes on the log after the conclusion of Matchday Three in the Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL Super Six Playoffs taking place in Lagos State on Wednesday.
The three games decided at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena ended in draw as Enyimba and Rivers United hold firm to top two positions on the log.
The Day Three encounters started with the class between Enyimba and Insurance FC which ended 1-1.
Sadiq Abubakar gave Enyimba an early lead with brilliant curler from edge of the box before Divine Nwachukwu headed in the equalizer for the Benin Arsenals.
Both sides produced some moments of brilliance in the second half but were unable to find the cutting edge for the winning goal.
The second match of the day was tagged the ‘battle of stars’ but neither of Remo Stars and Sunshine Stars failed to shine over each other.
The South West derby also ended as it happened in the first match where both teams could only registered a goal apiece.
Samuel Anaekwe shot Remo Stars to the lead in the first half and the Coach Daniel Ogunmodede could have sealed the game with subsequent chances before half time but left to rue the missed efforts.
Sunshine Stars even the scoreline with just a minute into restart when Gyang Emmanuel Lucky find the back of the net capitalizing on a let off on Remo defense.
The result did more damage to Sunshine Stars than Remo who are still third on log but the Owena Whales still far from convincing at the tournament.
The last match of the day recorded between Lobi Stars and defending champions, Rivers United ended in a barren draw as Mohammed Baba Ganaru side are still looking for their first win of the championship.
As it stands, Enyimba still hold on to top of the log with five points, same with Rivers United but with lesser goal advantage.
Remo Stars and Insurance FC are occupying third and fourth positions respectively with three points as Lobi and Sunshine are first two teams from behind.
The Matchday four expected to be more intense as clubs will look to go for broke in a bid to finish the championship on a high.
