NPFL: Umar Abdullahi laments Akwa United’s missed penalty in Rangers defeat
By Saheed Afolabi
Akwa United coach, Umar Abdullahi has rued the club’s missed spot kick against Enugu Rangers at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu on Sunday.
The Promise Keepers couldn’t secure a point against Coal City boys as they fell to a 1-0 loss to the Flying Antelopes.
And Abdullahi admitted it was really unfortunate not to get at least a point despite his players gave their all.
He admitted that, Rangers are a difficult side but they were able to create decent chances which couldn’t translate to goals.
“It’s unfortunate that we didn’t get anything out of this match. The boys gave their all and their level of commitment and determination was encouraging,” Abdullahi was quoted by Akwa United.
“We played against a very tough team and I’m impressed that we were able to express ourselves and created good scoring chances but the only challenge we had was that we couldn’t score and we also missed a penalty that could have given us at least a point.
“Despite the fact that we didn’t score in Enugu, I’m happy with the quality of players in the team especially in the attacking department. We have taken lots of positives from this match and I want to assure all our fans that we will make them proud in subsequent matches.”
Akwa United will battle Bayelsa United in their next game at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo in a bid to extend their slim safety above the relegation waters.
The Promise Keepers are on the 16th position with 21 points from 20 matches.
