NWFL board are more keen on partnership than sponsorship – Nkechi Obi

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Chairman of the Nigeria Women’s Football League, Nkechi Obi insists that her leadership will welcome more partnerships than sponsporships to improve the fortune of the domestic women’s game.

The NWFL Premiership will commence on November 15 and football enthusiasts are expecting the announcement of sponsorship deals for the Nigerian league but the sports marketing expert had another idea in stock.

“We are not into sponsorship. We believe more in partnership,” Obi told media

“In sponsorship, there are some kind of commercial returns from the sponsors. The women’s league is not a commercial venture even at the global level. Women’s football transfer record is 3.3 million Dollars. The English Premier League practically funds the women’s league.

“We are in the market for partners who will come in now and grow with us to the point where we will become commercial. Those conversations are going very well. We will announce a few people but they would not be your traditional or telecommunication sector.

“They would be people you would never think of having an interest in women’s football. We will give things other than the commercial aspect. We will give you an opportunity to reach the community, meet the United Nations Goals for gender equality, and all kinds of opportunities like social impact opportunities. We will see a few of them.”
